On July 15th and 26th, 2024, the European Commission made progress in the implementation of Regulation (EU) 2020/1056 on electronic freight transport information (eFTI) by adopting two delegated acts. These acts are essential to enhancing the regulatory framework governing electronic information exchange in freight transport across the European Union, facilitating smoother compliance processes for economic operators and ensuring better coordination with national authorities.

European Association for Forwarding, Transport, Logistics and Customs Services (CLECAT): UK ANNOUNCES £10.5 MILLION FUNDING TO MITIGATE DISRUPTIONS DUE TO EES (30.08.2024)
As truck drivers and logistics service providers brace for the launch of the European Union's new digital Entry and Exit System (EES) on borders, set to be introduced in November, the UK government has announced an additional £10.5 million in funding to mitigate potential travel disruptions at British ports, reports POLITICO. The EES, which will require British travellers to register their fingerprints and photographs before entering Europe, has raised concerns about significant delays at key entry points.

European Association for Forwarding, Transport, Logistics and Customs Services (CLECAT): SURVEY ON MARKET READINESS FOR ALTERNATIVE FUEL HDV (30.08.2024)
Transport & Mobility Leuven, Ramboll Management Consulting, and the University of Antwerp have been commissioned by DG MOVE to produce a study analysing the market readiness for the expected uptake of alternative fuel heavy duty vehicles until 2030 and their corresponding infrastructure needs. The study would serve as input for the Commission report on the technology and market readiness for HDVs which is due in 2026, in the framework of the evaluation of the AFIR regulation.

European Association for Forwarding, Transport, Logistics and Customs Services (CLECAT): COMMISSION INTERIM EVALUATION OF CONNECTING EUROPE FACILITY 2021-2027 (30.08.2024)
On 27 August, the Commission launched a call for evidence for an interim evaluation of the current Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) 2021-2027 to assess the progress achieved and the efficiency of the programme. CEF was set up to build, develop and complete the trans-European networks in the transport, energy and digital sectors. The budget under the current CEF for transport amounts to EUR 25.8 billion, with the main objective to complete the TEN-T.

European Association for Forwarding, Transport, Logistics and Customs Services (CLECAT): EP COMMITTEES RESUME WORK NEXT WEEK (30.08.2024)
On 4 September, the European Parliament’s TRAN and ENVI committees will hold their first meeting after the summer recess and the election of the Committees’ Chairs and vice-Chairs. MEPs will continue the legislative work on the pending files from the last mandate and prepare the upcoming hearings of Commissioners-designate.
