Pressemitteilung: China Names World’s Largest Methanol Dual-Fuel Container Vessel OOCL Wisdom

The world’s first methanol dual‑fuel container vessel that can carry 24,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) was named OOCL Wisdom on May 8 in Nantong, East China’s Jiangsu Province. It is also the world’s largest ship of this type.
The vessel was built by Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China COSCO Shipping Corporation Limited (COSCO SHIPPING), for Orient Overseas Container Line Ltd. (OOCL), another COSCO SHIPPING subsidiary.
The OOCL Wisdom is 399.99 meters long and 61.3 meters wide, with a 33.2-meter depth. It has a maximum capacity of 24,168 TEUs, a deadweight tonnage of 225,000 metric tons, and a service speed of 22.7 knots, placing its dimensions and performance among the global benchmarks for vessels of its class.
The propulsion system of the vessel, including the world’s largest methanol dual-fuel main engine, auxiliary engines and boiler system, is capable of flexibly switching between methanol and conventional fuel oil.
Using methanol, the vessel can reduce about 150,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions, while nearly eliminating sulfur oxide emissions and significantly cutting nitrogen oxide emissions, meeting the shipping industry’s urgent demand for decarbonization and emissions reduction. (....)
