China Merchants Industry Holdings Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Merchants Group, has delivered the largest ro-ro (roll-on/roll-off) cargo vessel to be produced in the country to an Italian ship owner. The ship measures 238 meters in length and 34 meters in beam, with a cargo deck length of 7,800 meters — capable of carrying approximately 500 trailers and 180 cars. It features a twin low-speed engine configuration, dual controllable-pitch propellers, an air lubrication system and a solar-powered battery storage system. These technologies significantly reduce drag while sailing and enable zero emissions during port operations, positioning the vessel among the world’s most advanced and environmentally friendly short-sea ro-ro cargo ships.
