The Opening Ceremony of Connecting Europe Days 2026 put transport at the centre of Europe’s Single Market, competitiveness and resilience. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen set out a vision for a “true Transport Union”, built around completing cross-border connections, scaling European transport innovation, strengthening climate resilience and connecting an enlarging European Union.
Speaking in Brussels on 29 September, President von der Leyen framed transport as a tangible expression of European integration.
