Pressemitteilung: Decarbonization of the Maritime Industry: CMA CGM and SIPG Energy Complete CMA CGM’s First Biomethanol Bunkering

• CMA CGM and SIPG Energy successfully completed the bunkering of 3,643 tons of biomethanol for the CMA CGM OSMIUM at Yangshan Port.
• This operation marks CMA CGM’s first biomethanol bunkering worldwide and sets a new national record for the largest single biomethanol bunkering operation carried out at a Chinese port.
• Biomethanol is a low-carbon fuel produced from renewable or waste-based biomass, offering lifecycle greenhouse gas emission reductions of more than 65% compared with conventional marine fuels.
On March 5–6, 2026, the CMA CGM Group, a global player in sea, land, air and logistics solutions, and SIPG Energy successfully completed the first biomethanol bunkering of the CMA CGM OSMIUM at Yangshan Port’s Shengdong Terminal. This newly delivered 13,000 TEU biomethanol dual‑fuel containership will soon operate on the M2X service connecting Asia with Mexico.
“The biomethanol bunkering of the CMA CGM OSMIUM is more than a technical success, it marks a defining moment in our decarbonization journey. Together with SIPG Energy, we are demonstrating that cleaner, low‑carbon shipping is no longer an aspiration but a reality. This milestone strengthens our resolve to work closely with our partners to accelerate shipping decarbonization and propel our industry toward a more sustainable future.” Farid Trad, Vice President Group Energy Transition, CMA CGM Group (....)
