Pressemitteilung: Drought and water availability on the Ghent–Terneuzen Canal - UPDATES
The Ghent–Terneuzen Canal is under increasing pressure due to drought and changing hydrological conditions. This has direct consequences for the canal’s navigability, water availability for businesses, water quality (salinisation) and logistical reliability. As North Sea Port, we are an important stakeholder in the area and actively inform our customers about the potential impact on their operations. Drought and water availability on the Ghent–Terneuzen Canal UPDATE 7 JULY 2026 Readings near Sas van Gent: • Canal level: 1.93 metres NAP (the Netherlands) / TAW (Belgium) — 17 cm below the target level. • Salinity: 8,000 to 8,500 mg/l — the target value is 3,000 mg/l.
