The European Commission and Member States took an important step today towards reducing dependence on fossil fuels in road transport.
At today’s Transport Council in Luxembourg, EU ministers from 9 Member States endorsed the first two roadmaps developed under the Clean Transport Corridor Initiative (CTCI) together with Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism Apostolos Tzitzikostas, aimed at accelerating the deployment of charging infrastructure for zero-emission trucks along two major TEN-T corridors: the Scandinavian–Mediterranean and North Sea–Baltic routes.
The initiative marks an important milestone under the European Automotive Industrial Action Plan and reflects a shared ambition to accelerate the deployment of zero-emission freight transport across Europe in a coordinated and competitive way for Europe’s industry.
With the number of zero-emission trucks expected to increase from around 26,000 today to nearly 400,000 by 2030, seamless cross-border charging infrastructure will be essential to support uninterrupted freight operations across the EU. (....)
