Today, Eurostat released the European Statistical Monitor, a dashboard with short-term indicators covering different areas, such as economy, environment, business, health and work.
This monthly updated dashboard is designed to track developments within the EU as a whole and its members, as well as the EFTA countries, providing a holistic overview of key developments. It focuses on monthly and quarterly indicators, ensuring up-to-date insights and includes a commentary, focusing on recent changes and trends.
The EU economy maintains moderate growth, alongside business climate improvements and positive environmental developments
The EU economy continued its moderate expansion, supported by moderate GDP growth, declining greenhouse gas emissions and low unemployment. As the EU continues its efforts to reduce environmental impact and energy dependency, recent monthly data show improvement in air pollutants concentration yearly pattern in EU capitals, lower electricity consumption and a rising share of net electricity generated from renewable sources. Economic sentiment showed a slight improvement, while both bankruptcies and new business registrations increased by a similar magnitude. Looking at monthly business indicators, industrial production edged up, retail trade held steady, and service sector output showed a moderate decline. Government deficit improved and general government gross debt increased as percentages of GDP. (....)
