2026 FedEx Small Business Trade Index
MEMPHIS, Tenn., May 21, 2026 — Today, FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) released the 2026 FedEx Small Business Trade Index, a survey conducted by Morning Consult, showing how U.S. small businesses are actively adapting their operations and embracing innovation to navigate an increasingly complex global trade environment. Of those surveyed, 86% say trade is key to growth and expanding the U.S. economy.
Small- and medium-sized business decision makers report they are taking concrete steps to strengthen resilience and support their growth. Forty-four percent report holding more inventory, 4 in 10 are sourcing from multiple suppliers, and more than one-third are pursuing strategies such as nearshoring or reshoring. Nearly half say they are planning additional changes in the year ahead, reflecting a continued focus on flexibility and long-term competitiveness. Technology is playing a central role in this evolution. More than 80% of small businesses say trade-related innovations are valuable, including tools such as real-time shipment tracking and digital customs solutions that improve visibility, streamline processes, and help businesses operate more efficiently across borders.
These changes come as businesses adapt to shifting trade patterns and trade facilitation becomes more integral to day-to-day operations. Despite these challenges, small businesses remain confident in the role of global commerce.
