Pressemitteilung: Joint Statement: The railway sector offers a pragmatic plan for the Combined Transport Directive

On 4 June 2026, the European rail freight and intermodal sector signed a joint statement calling on EU lawmakers to seize a pragmatic opportunity to advance the revision of the Combined Transport Directive.
When the European Commission presented its Greening Transport Package in 2023, the revision of the 1992 Combined Transport Directive was intended to be a cornerstone of greener, more competitive logistics across Europe. Yet two years later, the file remains deadlocked.
Ahead of the debate among EU Transport Ministers on 8 June, the sector is proposing a practical plan that prioritises effective incentives to unlock the full potential of intermodal transport now.
