The Commission is currently carrying out an impact assessment of three pieces of maritime safety legislation to see whether and how they can be improved. The assessments will examine: • Directive 2009/16/EC Port State Control how to further improve safety, security and sustainability of maritime transport • Directive 2009/18/EC on maritime accident investigation to identify means to support Member States investigating accidents • Directive 2009/21/EC on compliance with flag State requirements to update and align with international rules, and to clarify and strengthen the obligations of the flag.
