Since then, supply chain disruptions and volatility have only increased. Three months into 2025, we have seen a barrage of on-again, off-again tariffs that have supply chain and logistics teams reeling, as they must rethink everything from next week’s shipping route to their foundational network models. From wildfires and flooding to tornadoes and hurricanes, climate change contributes to more frequent and powerful disasters. The Ukraine-Russia conflict is ongoing. Tensions flare in the Middle East without warning. A disruption at any point in the global logistics network — including the average of 12 touch points from shipment packaging to final delivery — can prove disastrous for profits, service levels, customer loyalty, and other key metrics. With the global e-commerce market predicted to reach $8.1 trillion next year, omnichannel revenues may be increasing — but so are the chances that something, somewhere, will go wrong on the journey of getting orders to the customer.
