Pressemitteilung: Navigability on the Amazon River: Implementation of a Low Water Surcharge
As part of our ongoing operational assessment of the Amazon River system, we are closely monitoring the reduction in water levels during the second half of the year and its impact on navigation to and from Manaus. Based on the latest prevision of Manaus Port captaincy (Capitania Fluvial da Amazônia Ocidental) navigability restrictions will commence in week 40 and expected to last at least until week 52. Current technical assessments indicate a relevant reduction in navigable draft conditions during the critical period, which will result in a significant decrease in overall transport capacity and vessel utilization. These limitations result in additional operational costs related to cargo handling, vessel capacity, vessel allocation, route adjustments, additional pilotage fees, a possible floating pier, administrative costs, and other measures necessary to maintain service continuity.
