A key UN forum has more than doubled the speed limit for cars and vans using automated driving systems. Regulations for heavy-duty vehicles are set to follow next. Safety is central to UNECE and IRU’s collaboration on road transport, which dates back almost 75 years. IRU actively participates in many UNECE working parties that bring member states together to debate and decide on safety standards, including the World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations (WP.29).
