Rhenus Road Freight has reached a milestone in the development of its new transshipment hub in Dortmund, having received official approval to begin construction of the facility. The new site, scheduled for completion and operational start in 2027, will replace the existing Road Freight location in nearby Unna and is being built intentionally to support more efficient, secure and sustainable operations. Initial demolition and excavation work is already underway, with approximately 30,000 square meters cleared to prepare for construction.
First fully in‑house developed transshipment facility in Germany
The Dortmund facility is being planned and implemented entirely in-house by Rhenus Road Freight making it the first purpose-built transshipment facility in Germany that Rhenus will develop from the ground up according to its own operational requirements. Design plans for the building include 11,000 square meters of transshipment space and approximately 100 modern bays, designed to ensure fast, flexible cross-docking and smooth material flows. (....)
