Pressemitteilung: SHI on Track to Demonstrate OCCS Technology for Container Ships
• SHI installed OCCS technology on a container ship owned by HMM and has been demonstrating the technology since July 2024. - SHI`s OCCS system is attracting attention in the industry as a pivotal technology for achieving net zero as it can utilize captured CO2 at 99.9% purity. On the 18th, Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI), HMM, PANASIA, and Korean Register (KR) successfully initiated the demonstration of `Onboard Carbon Capture & Storage (OCCS) System`. In July 2024, SHI and its partners installed an amine based OCCS on HMM`s 2,200 TEU container ship and began testing the technology on the vessel in actual operations for the first time in Korea. The aim of this operational test was to present the possibility of creating a decarbonization value chain linking shipbuilding shipping, and energy industries by deriving results that demonstrate the effectiveness and commercialization potential of OCCS technology.
