Steer has delivered a major new study for the European Parliament examining how Europe’s aviation sector can remain competitive, resilient and sustainable in an increasingly challenging global environment.
Commissioned by the European Parliament’s Committee on Transport and Tourism (TRAN), the Aviation Sector Strategic Action Plan provides an independent assessment of the current and future competitiveness of EU aviation and sets out recommendations to inform the development of a future strategic action plan for the sector.
The study comes at an important point in the European competitiveness debate. Following the publication of Mario Draghi’s report on the future of European competitiveness in 2024, strengthening the EU’s economic performance, productivity and strategic autonomy has become a central policy priority.
Against this backdrop, Steer examined aviation as an interconnected European ecosystem. The study considers the entire aviation value chain, including airlines, airports, aerospace, air navigation services, ground handling and aviation fuel, as well as the regulatory and policy environment shaping their performance.
