Mitsui O.S.K.Lines: Industry Experts Share Operational Insights into Wind-Assisted Propulsion Systems (WAPS) - Seminar explores performance evaluation, operational challenges and future prospects for WAPS - (26 October 2026)
ClassNK held the environmental seminar "Latest Trends and Practical Operation of Wind-Assisted Propulsion Systems" (the "Seminar") on October 23, sponsored by Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL), MOL Techno-Trade, Ltd., Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. ("K" LINE) and Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK).
As the shipping industry works to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, Wind-Assisted Propulsion Systems are gaining momentum. WAPS harness wind power to supplement ship propulsion, helping to reduce fuel consumption and GHG emissions. With installations expanding, attention is increasingly turning to operational experience and performance evaluation. The Seminar focused on these practical aspects, providing an opportunity to share knowledge on the adoption and operation of WAPS. A total of 160 participants from shipping companies, shipbuilders, marine equipment manufacturers and other organizations attended.

North Sea Port: North Sea Port sees recovery in cargo transhipment in the third quarter (28 October 2026)
With 17.2 million tonnes of cargo handled by sea, the companies at North Sea Port have had a strong third quarter. This is 1.6 per cent more than in the same period last year and marks the strongest quarter in four years. This offers North Sea Port the prospect of a positive trend towards the end of the year. The drought had a limited impact on cargo handling by sea.
As in the second quarter of this year, a number of segments are now seeing strong growth: the increase is mainly in the transhipment of liquid bulk (+8.5%) and general cargo (+20.5%). Dry bulk, however, declined (-5.2%), as did containerised goods (-3.4%) and RoRo (rolling stock, -1.0%).
Liquid bulk goods traditionally account for around a fifth of North Sea Port’s transhipment volumes. The growth in this segment stems from the substantial increase in gas oil, diesel and basic chemical products. Conversely, there were declines in the transhipment of naphtha and fruit juices.

Flix SE: FlixBus marks 10 years in Hungary, Croatia, and Spain, where domestic bus markets open at different speeds (28. October 2026)
FlixBus marked 10 years of operations in Hungary in March, Croatia in September, and Spain in October 2026. In all three, the network was built on international routes, and each is part of a Flix network that spans 46 countries and has carried more than 500 million passengers since 2013. Domestic services remain restricted by regulation: Croatia partially opened its domestic coach market in December 2025; FlixBus now sells domestic tickets on 41 connections within its international lines in Hungary; and in Spain, where FlixBus has built its network on international connections, domestic access remains considerably more limited.
